Realignment is on track in the Altus School System.

The Altus School Board last night heard final reports from principals regarding plans for revamping Altus High School, Altus Junior High and Altus Middle School.

High School Principal Mark Haught eloquently framed the spirit of the upcoming changes: "This year's going to be really a work in progress."

The district is realigning to accommodate full-day kindergarten, thereby bumping the grades upward throughout the system.

The high school will now host grades 9 through 12, the junior high grades 7 through 8, and the middle school grades 5 through 6. The elementary schools will house kindergarten through fourth grade.

The board also approved funds for several projects, to be completed before the beginning of the next school year. They include:

n $106,604 for fire security systems at the junior high and Roosevelt and Sunset elementary schools. $48,240 had been approved previously for the system at the middle school.

n $88,500 for a gas line at the middle school. On recommendation from John Redelsperger, director of related services, Bordwine Development was awarded the

bid.

n $18,571 for heating and ventilation and air conditioning at Eugene Field Elementary.

n $7,500 for installation of windows in the cafeteria and four classrooms at the high school.
