A Relay for Life Team Captains Meeting is set to be held Thursday, May 20th beginning at 7 p.m. at the First State Bank of Altus Conference Room. All current team captains and person interested in forming a fundraising team for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Event are encouraged to attend. This

The Western Ambassador Presidential Leadership student organization is accepting scholarship applications through May 21 for the 2004-2005 academic year. Prospective students should have good leadership potential, be willing to develop public speaking skills, and have a minimum grade point average of 2.5. Western Ambassadors give tours and speeches to prospective students, visit high schools, and speak at special events by request. Ambassadors also receive leadership training, which is sponsored by President Randy Cumby.
3-D Archery Shoot will be at the Clinton Lake Archery Range. Registration will be at 8:30 a.m. and the shotgun begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 22. Entry fee is $10 per person.

Southwestern Youth Services will be having a Summer Day Camp at the Rotary Community Center. This will run from 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m starting on May 24 to July 30. The cost is $25 per week for children ages 8 to 11 (all day) and free for walk-ins age 12-17 (afternoons only). They will be participating in the public school's free lunch program between the dates of May 25 to June 30 and transportation will be provied so for the other day they will need to bring a sack lunch. Altus Public Schools will be participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be served at Will Rogers Elementary, 1100 N. Forrest. Snack time will be from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. This will begin on May 25 to June 30.
The Jackson County Free Health Clinic will be open May 27 beginning at 5:15 p.m. The clinic is located inside Jackson County Health Department at 401 West Tamarack Road. The clinic is available for people without Medicare, Medicaid or medical insurance. For questions call 482-2223.
All past and present members of the Jackson County 4-H Riding Club are invited to attend a 25th anniversary celebration May 29 and 30 at J.C. Brooks' farm north of Blair. Brisket and hot dogs will be provided. Bring a potluck side dish and drinks. The event starts at 10 a.m. Saturday. You are welcome to bring your horse and ride and camp out, but no dogs are allowed. Western Oklahoma State College will select 24 eighth and ninth grade students to participate in the 2004 Summer Academy in Plant Biology and Transgenics to be held June 28-July 2. The students selected will live on campus and participate in lab work, field trips, and recreation. Interested students and/or parents should contact Elizabeth Wallace at 477-7761 or
elizabeth.wallace@wosc.edu. The summer academy is offered free of charge because of funding administered through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation.
