A wide variety of awards were presented by athletic director Jim Holloway.
The sportsmanship/leadership awards were presented first. The winners were: Matt Howard (football), Christina Castro (softball), Leah McPeak (cross country), Lane McPeak (cross country), Katy Carson and Sydney Risinger and Joseph Agnew (basketball), Cody McAskill and Shannon Violette (swimming) and Kody Roach (wrestling).
Also, Ashley Winters and Jose Lopez (soccer), Mark Shelly (track), Cody Young (baseball), Megan Wakeman (track), Whitney McCuistion and Blake Henry (golf), Jessica Balderas and Neal Lundby (tennis) and Kelsey Wray (cheerleading).
The all-state athletes were recognized. They were: William McCaskill (track), McCuistion (golf), Kornmeyer (soccer), Kristin Kirtland and Lynsey Hepner (soccer) Shannon Violette (swimming), Alex Fisher (football) and Kacie Walker and Kristin Nichols (cheerleading). Ariel Boone was an all-state alternate in soccer.
State champions were also recognized; William McCaskill for winning the state title in the 400-meter run and the 1600-meter relay team of McCaskill, James Holt, Devon Davis and De'Arteuy Jones.
The girls golf team and the boys track team were introduced for winning state championships this spring.
The Fan of the Year Awards went to Roberta Brady Lee and Diltz.
Former high school football coach Chris Stiles was the evening's keynote speaker. He made a brief presentation about how to live a better life.
The key points that he made concerned the attitude a person takes through life, the relationships a person forms and that everyone has a moral compass that they should follow.
The AHS senior lettermen were then awarded plaques by Altus All-Sports Association president Bryce Sellers and the evening concluded with the presentation of the awards for the top male and female athletes.
Jason Kornmeyer won the Mitch Windle Award, which is presented to the outstanding male athlete at Altus High, and McCuistion was presented the Cletus B. Street Award for being the outstanding female athlete.
