Seventy-two of the meanest, leanest muscle cars, street rods, classic cars and pickups converged on Blair on Saturday for the richest car show in Southwest Oklahoma, the Quartz Mountain Street Rod and Classic Car Show.
In addition to the car show, contestants participated in a Poker Run, driving their restored vehicles on a scenic route through Quartz Mountain State Park.
Mike Watkins of Sanger, Texas, took home the Best of Show trophy from Carl and Carmen's Creations and $1,000 for his awesome 1961 Chevrolet Impala.
Other winners included Clay Thompson of Altus, whose 1933 Ford 5-window Coupe, took the Best Street Rod honors. Jim Deaton of Flower Mound, Texas, took home the award for Best Muscle Car with his 1966 GTO.
Also taking home best in class awards were Henry Vloedman of Woodward, whose 1962 Corvette won best Classic Car and the 1965 Ford of Bill Fanning, also of Woodward, won Best Pickup.
The best overall vehicle in each division was awarded a plaque and $200. Winning $100 and plaque were Gary McLendon of Wichita Falls, Texas, for best paint on his 2001 Corvette, and Harold Bransteller of Woodward, for best interior on his 1955 Chevrolet 210.
Winners of the poker run were Donna James, of Altus, who had the highest hand, receiving $100. Chon Lopez, also of Altus, took the low hand honors, also receiving $100.
When asked about the success of the car show and it's impact on the City of Blair, Mayor Blake Roberts said, "This has been one of the best things to happen to Blair in a long time. Visitors get to see our town, it's history and get to know our friendly folks."
Forrest Ray, owner of the Orient Drug Store and Backdoor Steakhouse, plans to make this an annual event. Also scheduled is a two-day motorcycle show and poker run, sponsored by KJCM Lite Rock 100.3.
