ALTUS -- What began as a domestic dispute ended in a police chase and a crash at around 9:30 Thursday night.

According to Altus Police spokeswoman Marilyn Roberts, police received a call from Mary Weems claiming that her ex-husband had stolen her vehicle. At about the same time Officer David Dickerson saw a gold colored Honda speed out of the McDonald's parking lot westbound on Broadway.

Dickerson said he followed the vehicle as it turned south onto Lee, then west onto West Walnut. Dickerson pursued the Honda at a high rate of speed for three blocks until the driver, identified as Dustin Weems of 411 S. 11th in Frederick, attempted to turn south onto Benson but instead struck a utility pole.

Weems exited the vehicle and was handcuffed and taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. He was taken to Jackson County Jail on a charge of attempting to elude police.

Mary Weems later told police that the suspect is actually her husband and that he had kicked her out of the vehicle during a domestic dispute.
