Baden was a farmer in the Roosevelt area and was member of the First American Lutheran Church. He had served in the United States Coast Guard and was a charter member of the Roosevelt Lions Club. He served that club in various capacities. He was past president of the Kiowa County Farmers Union, a member of the Cattleman's Association and was a member of the Patron of the Arts at Altus. In addition, he had been very active in the Roosevelt community anywhere he could be of service.
Baden was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dolores.
He is survived by a son, Mark Baden of Altus; a daughter, Ann Thurmond and husband Ty of Roosevelt; two brothers, Oren Baden and wife Geraldine of Roosevelt and Albert Baden and wife Ola of Nobel; one sister, Lucille Hash of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Chad Baden and wife Katy of Lone Wolf, Joey Thurmond of Altus, Heather Tutten and husband Dusty of Blair, Gretchen Jones and husband Jeremy of Ogden, Utah, Lauren Thurmond of Chickasha and Katie Thurmond of Roosevelt and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Melvin R. Baden are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at the First American Lutheran Church in Hobart with the Rev. Ann Wasson officiating. Interment will follow in Lone Wolf Cemetery under the direction of People's Co-operative Funeral Home in Lone Wolf.
