She was born March 23, 1923, in Dallas, Texas, to Andrew and Florence (Lockaby) Campbell.
On Dec. 26, 1941 Ruby and John Henry Mitchell Sr. were united in marriage. He preceded her in death May 7, 1969.
Ruby moved to California in 1969 to be close to her family, later moving to Kingman, Ariz., where she lived with her daughter Nelda and son John and great-grandson Grant.
In January 2003 Ruby moved to Altus to be near her daughter Laura and family.
Ruby always enjoyed workin. She worked at Weeden Hospital and Main Laundry in Duncan and for many years at Hagar Slacks Factory in Temple. She also worked as a home care provider before she retired.
She had many hobbies. She enjoyed especially sewing, playing her guitar and her 12 string guitar and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by one son, John Henry Mitchell Jr. of Headrick; three daughters, Sandra Kaye Westfall and husband I.D. of Oklahoma City, Nelda Jo Goodhue and Laura Lee Fort and husband Danny, both of Headrick. She is also survived by one sister, Flora Thornberry of Pasa Robles, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and four sisters.
Graveside service for Ruby Lee Mitchell is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at the Duncan Cemetery. Chris Beck will be officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan, Oklahoma.
Mitchell Family will meet at the Holiday Inn, 1015 N. Hwy 81 Duncan.
