ALTUS -- A 19-year-old Gould woman died of injuries sustained when her car collided with a truck Wednesday afternoon approximately two miles west of Altus.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Ginger B. Earls was heading westbound on U.S. Highway 62 when she drove her 2001 Pontiac Grand Am into the back of a 1971 Mack truck that was making a right turn onto County Road 201. The accident occurred at 4:02 p.m.

Earls was Medi-flighted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where she died early today.

The driver of the truck, 21-year-old Jason R. Bates of Altus, was not injured.

According to the report, failure to stop was the cause of the accident.

News of Earls' death hit hard at Hollis High School, where she was one of 47 graduates in 2003.

Principal Ron Smith remembers her as a "good kid" who was involved in school activities, a saxophonist in the band who made All State three years in a row. Her mother recently retired as a math teacher at the school.

He said that many of the school's 200 students are reeling from the news and that counseling is available to all who need it.
