ALTUS -- Two student associations at Southwest Technology Center held student officer elections for the 2004-2005 school year.
Students in simulator maintenance technology and who are members of the Afterburner Chapter of SkillsUSA-VICA elected Terry Easter of Elk City as president, Mark Whiteside of Redondo Beach, Calif., as vice president Shay Young of Altus as secretary, and Terry Adamson of Jacksonville, Ill., as treasurer.
Instructor Bill Mason serves as the faculty advisor. SkillsUSA-VICA is a national organization made up of more than 13,000 local chapters with some 235,000 members around the country. The organization is a partnership of business and industry, students, instructors and school administrators and operates at all levels including schools and in state and federal associations. The purpose of the organization is to help prepare students to enter the work force by teaching leadership and professional development skills and by providing opportunities for students to put these skills to use.
New morning class officers for the Health Occupations Students of America chapter are Gwen Ingram president, Sara Bruce vice president, Altonice Cox secretary, Grace Smith treasurer, Jessie Poahway sentinel, Moneik Watkins parliamentarian, Renee Olson chaplain and, Krista Alcorta and Camelia Vela historians/reporters. All are from Altus except Smith who is from Granite and Vela from Duke.
Afternoon HOSA class officers are Katie Gieratz president, Grace Shepherd, vice president, Rachael Bailey secretary, Charmelyn Ignacio treasurer, Takara Spence sentinel, Kimberly Pruitt parliamentarian, Heather Combs and Morgan Perzinski historians/reporters and Sean Shelly chaplain.
HOSA is a national organization for students enrolled in a health occupations program that helps its membership acquire the knowledge, skills and behavior essential in preparing for a health career and to encourage leadership, patriotism and service.
Pam Ray, health science technology instructor, serves as the faculty advisor for both the morning and afternoon
