Funeral service for Mary E. Briscoe, 84, of Frederick will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roland Behnke and the Rev. Everett Smalts officiating. Burial will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Briscoe died on Sept. 4, 2004, after a sudden illness.

Mary Elizabeth Harnden Briscoe was born on Aug. 16, 1920, in Frederick to Fred Cornelius and Eva Jane (Wilson) Harnden. She attended Rose Hill Grammar School through the eighth grade then transferred to Frederick, graduating with the class of 1937. She was united in marriage to Joseph Lon Briscoe Jr., on Aug. 18, 1940, in Frederick. He preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1994. She was a homemaker and worked for many years at Betsy Bra and Kellwood Manufacturing. She later assisted her son Joe Briscoe in his CPA firm. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Joe Neal Briscoe of Oklahoma City and Jimmie Lon Briscoe of Frederick; one daughter, Glenda Ann Briscoe of Altus; a sister-in-law, Beverly Wallace; 10 grandchildren, Rock Allen Briscoe, Darris Wade Wheeler Jr., Joe Francis Briscoe and his wife Shelley, Tracy Lynn Briscoe, Barbara Diane Atkinson and her husband Scott, Diane Marie Massender and her husband Dean, David Paul Briscoe, Jimmie Lon Briscoe Jr., Joe Neal "Jody" Briscoe Jr. and his wife Causby and Katherine Elizabeth Briscoe; eight great-grandchildren; and four special friends, Mary Helen Briscoe, Gloria Campbell, Sue Ransom and Lori Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, George and F.O. "Bill" Harnden and one great-granddaughter, Gabrael Wheeler.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice in memory of Mary E. Briscoe.
