The Altus Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the 27th annual Farm City Week from Nov. 1 to 5. The theme this year is "Farming, Flying and Community -- The Pillars of Southwest Oklahoma."
A Farmer's Appreciation Luncheon is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3 at the west side of the Altus Community Center, 401 Falcon Road. Admission is $9 and those interested in purchasing tickets should contact the Chamber for reservations.
Farm tours will be held at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Only a few spaces remain for these tours. Those on the tour will watch cotton being picked at Robert Robbins farming operation. They will continue through Cotton Growers Cotton Gin, Altus Peanut Company and will drive new tractors provided by Western Equipment in the Jackson County Rodeo Arena parking lot. Those participating in the tours will attend the Farmers Appreciation Luncheon at the community center.
Other events of the week include the Farm City Week Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at the Altus High School Cafeteria. Tickets for the banquet are $16 per person. The speaker will be humorist, author and international speaker Dr. Michael Johnson.
A tour of Altus Air Force Base will be hosted by Col. Mark Solo, commander of the 97 Air Mobility Wing. The commander has made arrangements for an in-depth tour of the base beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 5.
