Nicholas Sparks, first caught Hysinger's interest with his novel, "Message in a Bottle." Since then she has read many of his novels, amazed that a man so young, (he's now 39), can write the lyrical beauty of these touching love stories which captivate the hearts of readers and establish him as a gifted novelist.
For her review, Hysinger is tying two novels together: "The Notebook" and "The Wedding." "The Notebook," Spark's first novel, portrays the unconditional and enduring power of love -- a commitment that lasts a lifetime. Noah Calhoun is haunted by images of a girl he met 14 years earlier -- whom he loved like no other. Unable to find her, he lives with memories until Allie Nelson, then 29, returns to see him one more time before she marries another man. The obstacles that once ended their previous relationship remain.
Naming "The Wedding," a follow-up, and not a sequel, Sparks continues the Calhoun's story, focusing on Noah and Allie's daughter, Jane, who has been married to Wilson Lewis for 30 years. Their daughter, with total assistance from Jane, her mother, plans the wedding, while Wilson, her father, tries to recapture his and Jane's faded love. The story inspires the reader as Wilson, with unwavering devotion, attempts to find his way back into the heart of the only woman he has ever loved.
