Altus Middle School is now offering Extended Day from 2:35 - 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. During this time students will receive homework help, tutoring, AR reading, games and snacks. All for only $50 per month. Drop ins welcome. Call AMS for more information at 481-2155.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5876 Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring their annual Young American Creative Patriotic Art Award Contest. The information is being sent to the Art Department at the schools, but we would like to offer this to any Home School Student. The Salvation Army is currently coordinating efforts to help bring a wonderful holiday experience to needy families in Jackson and Greer counties. Oklahoma Veteran Recognition Day will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Lawton/Fort Sill Veterans Center, 501 SE Flower Mound Road in Lawton. Guest speakers will be Lt. Commander Tracy D. Lions Club meeting features Larry Duffy, Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations for Western Oklahoma State College, and Chad Wiginton, Director of Development for WOSC. The Altus Lions Club meets every Thursday at noon at the Friendship Inn banquet room. All members and their guests are encouraged to attend.

The Board of Directors of Southwest will have it meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lincoln Center, 900 S. Carver Rd.

The Red River Valley Association and Red River Authority of Texas will conduct a one day, Regional Water Conference Thursday. It will be held at the Radisson Hotel in Wichita Falls, Texas. Byron Berline brings his bluegrass and western swing music to Altus at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the city auditorium. General Admission Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for Seniors and kids under 12. Tickets available at Altus Chamber of Commerce, Twilight Trader Music, Red River Federal Credit Union, Main Street Altus and area banks, plus Frontier Music in Lawton. This project is brought to you by the Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council with the assistance of the Oklahoma Arts Council.

The Altus Kiwanis Club meets at WOSC Student Center at noon, Friday. Glen Briggs is the Kiwanian of the day, the program will be presented by Shirley Corrigan representing the Southwest Oklahoma Chapter of the American Red Cross. All Kiwanians and their guest are encouraged to attend

Plantation Village Assisted Living Center's, 2600 Cedar Creek Drive, Halloween Party and Haunted House will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday. There will be games, prizes, trick or treat candy, cake walk, ring toss and bobbing for apples. The Haunted House will be open from 2 to 7:30 p.m. The nursing home, 2610 Cedar Creek Drive, will also have trick or treat that same night from 2- 5 p.m.

Our Savior Lutheran, 1901 Falcon Rd., will be having a Hallelujah Party from 5 - 8 p.m. Saturday. There will be fun and games. For more information call 482-0743.

VFW Post 4876 is hosting a Halloween carnival from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday for children up to age 12. The theme is Safe Halloween. There will be games, food and prizes. McGruff the Crime Dog and Little Red the Clown will be there. The public is invited.

Trick or Treat at Tamarack Retirement Center. School age children and their parents can follow the yellow brick road at Tamarack Retirement Center. Meet Dorothy and others from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday. Call 477-4848.

Atwoods will be having its 9th Annual Pet Costume Contest this year at 2 p.m. Sunday at Atwoods. Pets will be judged on their costumes in three weight categories. For more information contact the local Atwoods or Heather kline at Atwoods, 2220 N. Main.



NOVEMBER

The Jackson County Ministerial Alliance will be meeting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the Church of the Nazarene, 700 N. Main. All Jackson County ministers are encouraged to attend.

The American Red Cross is currently taking enrollment for an Adult CPR/AED/First aid class to be held Nov. 4. Please call the chapter at 580-482-5303 for further information and to sign up.

World Community Day will be held at Highland Heights United Methodist Church, 1911 N. Main St. at 11:10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5. All women are invited. Women of St. Paul's Episcopal Church will present the program. A lunch and nursery will be provided. For child care, please call ahead at 482-5267. Bring a sack lunch for your child.

Southwest Cowboy Church will have its 1st Annual Fall Ball Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Jackson County Expo Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., Dance at 7 - 10 p.m. The admission fee is 3 canned goods or non-perishables per person (to be donated to the Community Cupboard). Music provided by: Scooby's Karaoke and DJ. There will be fun, food and fellowship for the entire family in a alcohol-free environment.

There will be a Ginger Earls Memorial Benefit Roping Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Wellington, Texas Fairgrounds. Entries start at 9 a.m., rope at 10 a.m.. Draw-pot only, 3 partners fro $75. Sheppard Officers' Spouses Club 2004 Hanger Holiday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14 at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas. Enter Missle Road Gate. Christmas bazaar , crafts and antique fair.

There will be a Food Handlers Class on Tuesday Nov. 16 instead of Oct. 12. The classes will be at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the VFW, 500 N. Veteran's Drive. Temporary Food Handler's Permits with the Oct. 12, 2004 expiration date will be valid until the Nov. 16 class.
