ALTUS -- This weekend's rain may have slowed the crowd a bit, but despite the wet weather, many guests from Altus and surrounding areas gathered Saturday evening to see the annual "Christmas in the Park" and enjoy the lights, displays and the visit from Old Saint Nick himself.

The lights were turned on early and the originally scheduled festivities were canceled, although the Christmas train was still in operation, giving patrons rides around the park.

The tunnel of lights was a favorite during the night, featuring lights of all different colors this year. As attendees walked through the tunnel, they were serenaded by various Christmas songs played through the loudspeakers.

"I remember the first year I came here, it was like magic," said Sandy Smith of South Carolina. "I still love coming and I try to come back every year."

Most of the decorations and scenery were fully lighted, although some scenes were not illuminated because of the rain and damp electrical lines. The concession stand stayed open most of the night, serving hot chocolate and other items to those who braved the cold.

All in all, the night was full of excited children giving Santa (aka John King) their Christmas wishes and lots of kisses.

Santa will visit the park nightly from 6 to 10

p.m. nightly weather permitting.
