The Altus Firefighters have kicked off Coats for Kids. Bring your coats by either location of the Altus Fire Departments. All coats are then cleaned by Altus Cleaners and the Salvation Army will deliver the coats. to families in need. Help those less fortunate this holiday season and donate to Coats for Kids.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4876 Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring its annual Young American Creative Patriotic Art Award Contest. The information is being sent to the art department at the schools, but we would like to offer this to any home school student. The Salvation Army is seeking sponsors for needy children on the Christmas Angel Tree this year. Sponsors are needed to provide gifts to underprivileged children in the community. Angel Trees are located at Wal-mart, Atwood's and J.C. Penny in Altus. Corporate/church sponsors should call Captain Annette Parker at 482-8577 to sponsor multiple "Angels".
Red River Federal Credit Union, 2121 N. Main, will host an exhibit on the history of U.S. currency, featuring historic notes and coins on loan from the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. The display is available for viewing till Dec. 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday - Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. Santa Claus will be there from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17 to take pictures with.
Marine Toy for Tots Foundation will be collecting new unwrapped toys from Nov. 15 to Dec. 24 and will remain in our area. The Jackson County Free Health Clinic will be open for patients at 5:30 p.m Thursday. The clinic will not be open any other Thursday in December. The clinic will operate as usual in January with two clinics on January 13 and 27. For more information call 482-2223

Habitat for Humanity Altus Area Community Luncheon will be hosted by St. John Baptist Church. Serving time is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the Altus Community Center at the reservoir on Falcon Road. The cost if $5 per person, they will be serving beef stew, chili beans, cornbread, tangy slaw, dessert, tea and coffee. All proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity Altus Area, Inc.
