The Altus Firefighters have kicked off Coats for Kids. Bring your coats by either location of the Altus Fire Departments. All coats are then cleaned by Altus Cleaners and the Salvation Army will deliver the coats to families in need. Help those less fortunate this holiday season and donate to Coats for Kids.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4876 Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring its annual Young American Creative Patriotic Art Award Contest. The information is being sent to the art department at the schools, but we would like to offer this to any home school student. St. James Lodge #229 is hosting its annual "Coats For Kids" drive. Contact Michael Scott: 477-4825 or Tim Case: 482-6048 to drop off your donations. All coat sizes accepted.

The Salvation Army is seeking sponsors for needy children on the Christmas Angel Tree this year. Sponsors are needed to provide gifts to underprivileged children in the community. Angel Trees are located at Wal-mart, Atwood's and J.C. Penny in Altus. Corporate/church sponsors should call Captain Annette Parker at 482-8577 to sponsor multiple "Angels".

Marine Toy for Tots Foundation will be collecting new unwrapped toys from Nov. 15 to Dec. 24 and will remain in our area. Monetary donations will also be collected at the local branch from Nov. 15 to Dec. 24. If any wants to make a donations they can stop by First American Cash Advance or Check Advance, 118 N. Main, between the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday - Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. For more information call 477-1178.

Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group Inc. programs: Southwest Transit, Head Start, Southwest Enterprises, RSVP, Senior Nutrition and Central Office will be closed Thursday and Friday, Dec. 23 and Dec. 24, in observance of Christmas. These offices will also be closed Friday, Dec. 31, in observance of New Year's Day.

Prince of Peace Catholic Church Christmas Mass schedule is as follows Friday,there will be 3 services: 7 p.m. Hollis-Parrish Mission, 11:30 p.m. caroling begins in Altus, midnight Mass in Altus; Saturday, there will be 2 services: 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mass (Altus). If you have any questions please feel free to contact Marcella Osborn at 482-3363 before noon Thursday.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday in the worship center of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 800 North Forrest, in Altus. The public is invited to remember the true reason of Christmas.
