ALTUS -- It gets down to the nitty gritty for the Altus High School Bulldogs on Friday.
Coach Rick Bull's Bulldogs travel to Oklahoma City John Marshall for the first round of the Class 5A regional basketball tournament.
The Bulldogs will play El Reno in a 6:30 p.m. matchup. The other first round game pits second ranked John Marshall against Guthrie at 8 p.m.
The two winners will play at 7 p.m. Saturday.
El Reno has to be considered the favorite in their game with the Bulldogs. The Indians will take a 15-7 record into the game while Altus is 9-13.
But records can be deceiving as it appears the Bulldogs have played a much more difficult schedule. The Altus opponents in 17 of the 22 games have winning records while El Reno has played teams with winning records in seven games.
"They are physical team and they rebound very well," said Bull.
Bull was very disappointed in the Bulldogs defensive and rebounding efforts in their 69-63 victory over Duncan last Friday night.
"If we rebound and play defense better we will win," said Bull. "If we don't, we'll be one and done."
Directions to John Marshall: Take I-44 to Oklahoma City. Go north on Lake Hefner Parkway and exit east on Britton Road. Go past Pennsylvania and go past Waverly approximately four to six blocks. Turn right on State Champions/University Drive to John Marshall High School.
