Sudie Ruth Miller was born March 3, 1916, near Russell, the fifth child of T.L. and Sudie Miller.
She attended school and graduated from Centralvue Consolidated School near Russell in 1934. After moving with her family to Mangum in 1934, she attended, played basketball for, and graduated from Mangum Junior College.
Miller worked 13 years at the Greer County Courthouse before becoming court clerk. She faithfully served the public for 34 more years. She retired in 1983.
She was an active member in the First Baptist Church in Mangum where, over the years, she taught a Sunday school class, was a girls auxiliary counselor, was church treasurer and sang in the choir.
She participated in community activities as well, serving as an officer in the Business and Professional Women's Club, and was a past noble grand of the Mangum Rebekah Lodge. She was secretary of the Southwestern District County Officers Association and held offices in the State League of Young Democrats of Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her father; mother; four brothers, Willie, Bert, Joe, and Troy; and two sisters, Opal Pigg and Irene Conner.
She is survived by two sisters, Fay Baumann of Haysville, Kan., and Jan Noyola of Madison, Wis.; two nephews; 11 nieces; and her dear friends, Floyd and Ola Cartwright. She also loved and appreciated the many kind caretakers who helped her in the last three years at Grace Living Center and Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Greer Funeral Chapel in Mangum, with Pastor Don Ross officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Mangum.
