Claude Melvin Goad, 78, of Mangum, died Monday, March 21, 2005, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Goad was born Jan. 19, 1927, in Mangum to William Andrew and Grace (Thrower) Goad. He graduated from Mangum High School, and then joined the Navy. He married Betty Williams on Aug. 14, 1950, in Key West, Fla. In Key West he was an electronics expert and worked on sonar equipment. Betty preceded him in death on March 16, 2001.

Claude worked at Goad's Pontiac Garage in Mangum as a mechanic and co-owner with his father. As well as being a mechanic, he was also a proud and brave firefighter for the city of Mangum for 21 years and retired as fire chief. He was a reserved man who was always there for his children. He was a good father.

Claude is survived by a daughter, Robin Bogart of Mangum; a son, David Goad of Granite; one brother, Charles Goad of Minnesota; one sister, Rita Rincarson of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Sarah Bogart of Mangum; and one great-grandchild, Hannah Ramirez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Betty (Williams) Goad.

Services were to be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at the First Baptist Church in Mangum with the Rev. Don Ross officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Mangum. Arrangements are with Greer Funeral Home.
