Altus ran into Lawton High left-hander Clay Curtis who was wild throughout most of the game. But an impatient group of Altus hitters could not get anything going offensively and were shut out for the first time this season.
The Bulldogs had only one hit, a single off the bat of junior second baseman Michael Jackson.
Altus did have many opportunities. They had 10 base runners in the game. One came off of Jackson's hit, two on LHS errors and seven on walks by Curtis. The problem was the Bulldogs were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
The Bulldogs defensive problems continued. They committed four errors, bringing their season total to 84.
Only one of those errors proved costly. Lawton High's lead-off batter reached base on an error. The Wolverines than got hits from Kellan Hill, Heath Troutman, Chris Bennett and Tanner Wade to score four runs in the inning in the first.
Altus starting pitcher Michael Hermer got off to shaky start, but settled and pitched well the rest of the way. He gave up six hits on the afternoon, yielded one earned run and struck out six.
The Bulldogs finish their regular season with a 19-10 season record.
They will travel to Midwest City Carl Albert on Tuesday where they will play Oklahoma City Western Heights in the first round of the regional tournament. The first pitch is set for 1:30 p.m.
