Altus Police Chief Mike Patterson said the informant called police after seeing an artist's rendering of the suspect released Monday, and identified the man in a photo lineup Wednesday as Brandon Shane Luebking, 20, of 909 Hazel. Luebking had been staying at that address until the relative he was staying with filed a protective order against him.
Luebking was arrested May 24 after he allegedly pushed his way through the storm door of the house, breaking the dead bolt lock. When he left, according to an affidavit filed in District Court, the relative noticed that a check had been removed from her checkbook and she called the Red River Federal Credit Union to advise them that Luebking would likely be heading there to cash a check.
The credit union called police when Luebking presented the forged $30 check at the drive-through lane, and Luebking was arrested on South Carver Road, charged with burglary in the first degree, uttering a forged instrument and violation of a protective order.
Just before 9:30 a.m. May 10, a man who police now believe to have been Luebking, broke into a home at 1001 George St., where he was confronted by a man who struck him twice with a chair and told the intruder to sit down while he called police. The intruder then grabbed a knife from the kitchen counter and stabbed the victim three times -- in the upper chest, left hand and lower stomach. The intruder left the house through a sliding glass door and headed north.
The victim's wounds were superficial and he declined medical treatment.
Patterson said police have forwarded an affidavit to the District Attorney's office and expect that Luebking will be hit with additional charges of first degree burglary and assault with intent to kill.
