He was born June 27, 1942, to Ira Payne and Jodie (Pate) Payne in Altus.
Buck attended Duke schools for 12 years and graduated in 1960. He then attended Altus Junior College and later transferred to Cameron University in Lawton.
On January 31, 1964, Buck married Elmeda Olson in Duke.
Buck farmed for many years, managed grain elevators and for several years owned and operated "Uncle Bucks Rides & Barbeque" at Quartz Mountain State Park. After a fire totally destroyed the business, Buck was then employed by the Western Sizzling Restaurant in Elk City as the assistant manager. He worked there until his illness prevented employment.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ira Payne.
Buck is survived by his wife Elmeda of the home; his mother, Jodie, of Altus; two sons, Darrin and his wife Donna of Duke, Duane and his wife Tara of Victoria, Texas; four grandchildren, Keelie Gifford of Duke, Bailey Cheyenne Payne, Cole Ryan Payne and Jake Hunter Payne of Victoria, Texas; one sister, Sharon Moore and husband Roland of Altus; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at the Duke United Methodist Church. Internment will follow at Victory Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2005, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
