Teen injured in Kiowa accident

KIOWA COUNTY -- A teenage girl was seriously injured in a one-car mishap in rural Kiowa County on Monday evening.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2000 Jeep driven by Colt Edward Self, 20, of Snyder, was headed northbound on a county road five miles west of Mountain Park at about 8:25 p.m. Monday when he ran off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole.

His passenger, 15-year-old Rachel Shelton of Snyder, was pinned by the car for a half hour before Self was successful in freeing her.

Shelton was taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital with internal and external chest and arm injuries. She was later Mediflighted to Oklahoma City Children's Hospital.
