Two art classes/workshops are scheduled for July. A workshop titled "Elementary Art Survey" for 3rd through 5th graders will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. July 18-26 at the Altus City Auditorium Blue Room. Fee for the workshop is $25 and covers instructor payment and materials. Both workshops will be conducted by Synott Matthews. For further information call the Altus Public Library 477-2890

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays will hold a meet-and-greet at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant at 601 E. Gore in Lawton.

The Lawton Area Friends of Iris Society, an affiliate of the American Iris Society, will hold two iris rhizome sales in July. Both sales will open at 8:15 a.m. July 23 and 30 at K-Mart, 38th Street and Cache Rd. The sales will last until sold out or temperatures become too high for both buyers and sellers.

Country and Western gospel jam session will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 23 at the Community Building in Gould. Free admission and free refreshments. Everyone is welcome to come. For information, call 580-688-2930 or 471-6175.

July County Wide Quarterly 4-H Club meeting has been scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23 at the SW Baptist Assembly Grounds near Quartz Mountain State Park. Directions are to go north on Highway 44 toward Lone Wolf, pass the entrance to the state park, the camp grounds are on the east side of the road as you go around the curve of the mountain. Bring a swimsuit, a towel, sun screen, and a chair. Girls please wear a one piece or a t-shirt over suit. Guys, no "speedos" please. We will be serving lunch and need your reservations ASAP if planning to attend. Call Dana at 482-0823. Our business meeting will include information about recent changes for 4-H Fair entries and other details about the county and state fairs. All Jackson County 4-H members and their families are invited to attend this fun and informative meeting.

First Assembly of God in Altus will present Kingdom of the Son from 9 a.m. to noon, July 25 to 29 at 1400 Falcon Road for all children K-6th grade. Van service is available. Call 482-7115 to pre-register. Closing assembly will be 7 p.m. Friday, July 29.

The Jackson County Health Department has announced that Food Handler's Classes are scheduled for 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 at the Southern Plains Library, 421 N. Hudson, Altus. According to the Altus City Ordinance, any person who is employed at or who manages a local eating or drinking establishment and does not have a current Food Handler's Permit must attend one of these classes. Person holding only temporary Food Handler's Permits are also required to attend one of these classes. Due to the importance of these classes, no on will be admitted inside once the presentation has started.

DAV and DAVA will meet Tuesday, July 26 at the Towers Apartments, 101 E. Commerce, Altus. Supper will be at 6 p.m. follow by the meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The Jackson County Free Health Clinic will be open July 28. The free health clinic is open to people who have no Medicare, Medicaid or medical insurance. Located inside Jackson County Health Department at 401 W. Tamarack Road. Call ahead for an appointment 482-2223.

The Duke Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring a city-wide garage sale starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 30. The Chamber will be advertising for this county-wide and it is expected to be a big event! Please take this opportunity to clean out the garage and make some extra money! The Snyder Blue-Cats Co-Ed Softball team is sponsoring an adult co-ed softball tournament with all proceeds to benefit the Southwest Oklahoma Chapter of the American Red Cross. The tournament is to be held August 5, 6, and 7 in Altus at Davis Fields. Entry fee for the tournament is $125 per team, due by August 4. The Altus All Sports Association would like all Bulldog football players from the past to attend the Blue and White scrimmage August 13. Please check in at the Hall of Champions starting at 5 p.m. We will announce all names of past players and the years played during the scrimmage. The J.V. scrimmage will be at 6 p.m. followed by the Varsity at 7:30 p.m. There will be hot dogs and refreshments after the scrimmage. The Prince of Peace Catholic Church will have a multi-cultural dinner and show at 6:30 p.m. August 27 and at 3 p.m. August 28 at the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road.
