Mamie was born on July 30, 1924, to Lester and Ada (Adams) Kennedy in Paragould, Ark. She married Herschel Langston on Oct. 5, 1940, and he preceded her in death in 1969. On Oct. 30, 1975, Mamie married Eldon Alexander in Chandler, Ariz.
Affiliated with the Pentecostal Church, Mamie loved gospel music and cooking for her family and friends. Moving to Mangum in 1989 from Chandler, Mamie lived in Mangum until 2002 when she moved to English Village Nursing Home.
She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband; one brother; one sister; and a daughter, Linda Anderson in 2000.
Mamie is survived by two daughters, Ola Mae Cartwright and husband Floyd of Mangum, and Connie Smith and husband Lee of San Diego; three sons, Paul Ray Langston and wife Alice of Orange Grove, Calif., Charlie Langston and wife Shirley of Oklahoma City, and Bobby Langston and wife Betty of San Angelo, Texas; two brothers, Jimmy Kennedy of Chandler, and Roy Kennedy of Sacramento, Calif.; five sisters, Dwana Stone Sims of Chandler, Aline Fletcher of Houston, Texas, Jewell Roper of Chandler, Lucida Kennedy of Chandler, and Gail Rackley of Las Vegas; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, six great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services for Mamie Mariam Alexander will be Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Church of God on Taft with the Rev. Sam Studer officiating.
Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Mangum. Funeral services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
