HCE will be collecting new, clean, in good condition and up to 24" stuffed animals at their booth at the county fair.

A watergarden tour has been set up for Saturday, Sept. 10. If anyone would like to be on the tour, please contact Linda Vann at 477-1998 . Those with specialty gardens can also contact Vann.

Altus Firefighters Local 2749 will hold their 8th Annual 3 Man Handicapped Golf Scramble at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Quartz Mountain Golf Course, Quartz Mountain State Park, Lone Wolf.

The Southside Baptist Church Girls in Action will be holding a garage sale 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Southside Baptist Church, 1100 Asa Lee. All the proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase items to fill shoeboxes for the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child.

First Presbyterian Church, 208 E. Cypress, will be having a guest speaker delivering the sermon at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11. Speaking will be George Graham of Lawton.

A Water Babies class for children eight months to five years will begin from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Altus City/School Swimming Facility. A parent or guardian, at least 16 years old, is required to be in the water with the child. An adult class will be conducted from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Both classes will cost $38 for the four-week classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Please call 481-2137 to enroll.

Jackson County Democratic Women will meet at noon Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Friendship Inn Restaurant. Guest speaker will be county commissioner, Dale Dunn. The meeting is open to the public.

Altus Literary Club will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the home of Mary Jane Winsett, 2028 Willard Dr.

The Altus Public Library will hold a class on bottle cap creations at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15. Learn how to create wrist cuffs, magnets and other cool stuff from ordinary bottle caps. Class size is limited so preregistration is required! For more information, call the library at 477-2890.

Habitat for Humanity will have their luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Altus Community Center, reservoir on Falcon Road. All money raised will go to the Katrina Hurricane Relief.

Infant Adoption Awareness Training will be offered free of charge from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Southwest Baptist Association office, 2515 N. Main. Six continuing education units are available for nurses and social workers upon request. The seminar is hosted by Pathway, A Pregnancy Resource Center. Lunch will be provided. The Great Friends of the NRA are making plans for their Annual Banquet/Auction to be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Altus Community Center on Falcon Rd. There will be a pre-event drawing for two gun giveaways, an AR15 and a Thompson Center Omega Muzzleloader.
