ALTUS — The attorneys who successfully defended Mark Adam Prentice in his recent jury trial on a charge of shooting with intent to kill have filed a request to withdraw as his attorneys of record in his upcoming first degree murder case.
R. Scott Adams and Joe Brett Reynolds, of Adams and Associates of Oklahoma City, filed the request Monday in District Court, giving as their reason the defendant’s lack of payment.
The filing stated that Assistant District Attorney Jan Warren had no objection to the request.
Prentice, who was found not guilty Nov. 17 of shooting with intent to kill Benny Ceniceros in the early morning hours of Labor Day 2004, remains jailed, charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of a District III Drug Task Force informant, James Petty, 34, who was found dead on the morning of Nov. 12 off the road near an intersection of South County Road 203 and East County Road 166, the victim of multiple gunshot wounds. If he is convicted of the murder of Petty, Prentice faces the death penalty.
A status hearing in the murder case is set for Jan. 3.
