ALTUS — An Altus man and a 9-year-old girl were taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital with incapacitating injuries Thursday night after the man lost control of the motorcycle they were riding in the 2500 block of North Main.

The driver of the vehicle that reportedly changed lanes in front of the motorcycle, causing Nicky James Hollingsworth, 34, of 516 Martha, to lock the brakes of the 1999 Kawasaki V5E motorcycle, has not been identified, however a caller to the Times who said she had witnessed the wreck said the vehicle was a late 1990s four door Pontiac Grand Am.

According to the Altus Police collision report, a witness said Hollingsworth and the girl, Taylor Russell, also of 516 Martha, were heading south in the outside lane alongside the vehicle in the inside lane when the vehicle changed lanes “very fast, nearly hitting the motorcycle.”

Hollingsworth locked up the brakes and he and the girl were thrown from the motorcycle. The vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Police responded to a 9-11 call about the accident at 10:23 p.m. and upon arrival found the motorcycle lying on its side in the outside southbound lane near Sequoyah and Hollingsworth and the girl lying on the ground near the motorcycle.

Hollingsworth suffered head, external trunk, arm and leg injuries. Russell suffered internal trunk, arm and leg injuries.

According to the report, Hollingsworth had an expired license and did not have a motorcycle endorsement.
