The Special Meeting of the Altus City Council on Friday, May 13 will cover budget planning for the fiscal year (FY) 2011-2012.

The Budget Committee met last Thursday to work on the City's financial plans for the new FY beginning July 1.

Committee Chair Jack Smiley said, "Every year we have at least one meeting to discuss the City's upcoming budget.  One very important item we will discuss this year is setting up an emergency fund that will not be kept in the cash pool account. I feel that actually budgeting for that savings account would be a giant step in the right direction."

Because financial planning would take up most of a regular City Council meeting, it was decided to devote an entire meeting to the subject.

The agenda indicates that each department's budget requests and the number of their personnel budgeted will be considered. The council reserves the right to add or remove items or projects as needed.

The Council met at noon today for another Special Meeting regarding City Administrator Mike Nettles. Any results released to the media from that meeting will be given in the Friday Altus Times.
