Junior Livestock Show set for Feb. 24-27
ALTUS — Dates for the 2006 Jackson County Junior Livestock Show have been set for Feb. 24 through Feb. 27. Mike Wagoner serves as chairman of the Livestock Show Action Group and Rod Nichols serves as general superintendent of the Show.
This is the 62nd year for this youth agriculture related educational program sponsored by the Altus Chamber of Commerce.
The overall purpose of the show is to highlight agriculture and provide a forum for the youth of our county to look at agriculture as a career choice. These students spend many hours raising their animals, keeping records and then showing them.

Entry forms are due no later than Feb. 17, with fees of $7.50 per sheep, meat goat and swine and $12.50 for beef and $15 per stocker pen. Entry Fees for prospect steers are $5. All animals have to be pre-entered with entry fees paid in full.
The show catalog is available at the chamber office and also by accessing the Web site www.altuschamber.com.
The Premium Auction will be held on Monday, Feb. 27.
United Supermarkets will again prepare all the food for the Bidder’s Barbecue starting at 4:30 p.m. Barbecue tickets have been sent to all former bidders of the Premium Auction. All chamber members are encouraged to attend. Stop by the chamber office to pick up your tickets to the barbecue. All activities will be held at the Jackson County Expo Center.
Judges for the show this year are Beef, David Dorrell of Cache; Meat Goat, J.R. Patterson of Marlow; Sheep, Allan Hybshaw of Binger; and Swine, Tim Herron of Yukon.

5:30 p.m., Judging of Meat Goats, followed by Ewe and Market Lambs

9 a.m., Judging of Gilts and Barrows

1 p.m., Judging of Heifers and Steers
Monday, Feb. 27
8:30 a.m., Livestock Judging Contest
