The $15 meals will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. at Frederick’s Prather Brown Center, 211 South 13th.
Diners who choose take-out meals may come to the old Central Grade Elementary School building at 200 South 12th. Take-out meals will be served from the south end of the former elementary school’s main hall way.
All oyster fry plates will contain an ample quantity of oysters along with coleslaw, chips and bread. Local 4-H Club members will be on hand selling amazing homemade desserts, and Frederick Girl Scouts will also be there selling cookies.
Tickets for the oyster fry may be purchased at the event or in advance at the Frederick Chamber of Commerce or numerous Frederick businesses. To avoid long lines, those who choose to dine in at Prather Brown Center will be called to eat by ticket number. Numbering of tickets will begin at 3 p.m.
Raw oysters may be purchased by the gallon on an availability basis. To be added to the list for purchase of raw oysters, call Box Inc. in Frederick at 580-335-2185. Diners at the event may also ask to be included on the purchase list. Cost of the raw oysters will be $70 per gallon.
Parking is often in short supply at the oyster fry, so to ease parking issues, shuttle buses will run from 4 to 7:30 p.m.
Oyster Fry diners may choose to park downtown near the Pioneer Townsite Museum at 9th and Floral, near the Crawford Collection at 115 North Main, or at the First Baptist/ First United Methodist parking lot at 12th and Grand. Red River Transportation buses will pick up diners, deliver them directly to Prather Brown Center, and return them to their cars after the meal. The shuttle service will be provided free of charge by the Community Action Development Corporation.
An oyster fry craft show will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the old Middle School Gym, 201 South 13th Street, next door to the oyster fry site. There will be no admission charge for the craft show. Twenty-six craft vendors will be on hand at the show to exhibit and sell their wares.
Items for sale will include pottery, sewn goods and needlework, candles, leather goods, Western tack, wood crafts, food mixes, candy and much more.
Merchants throughout Frederick will run special oyster fry promotions Saturday and many will maintain special Saturday afternoon hours.
In addition, numerous Frederick attractions will be open Saturday afternoon. These include the Pioneer Townsite Museum (located west of the Tillman County Courthouse Square), the amazing Crawford Collection of trophy mount animals, the historic Ramona Theatre, the 1929 Hotel Frederick and the 1915 Frederick Carnegie Library.
