Sue Newland spearheaded the establishment of Habitat for Humanity in Altus, and continues to work tirelessly to promote the goal of providing affordable housing for families in Altus. Bill Newland, a local physician, provides medical care in the Jackson County Free Health Clinic twice monthly. They were awarded a plaque of appreciation.
In other business, President James Mahan gave a brief history of ACMI and reports were received from Community Cupboard, Threshold Services, and Children's Committee of Concern.
Officers elected for the coming year are Al Singleton, president, Rick Arnold, vice-president, Theresa Brotherton, secretary, and Sam Bayless, treasurer.
Representatives from the Altus Ministerial Alliance were introduced, and Capt. Mark Leistner introduced three women from the Work Center. Capt. Leistner invited all to tour the facility following the meeting.
A lunch was served to 35 members and guests. Associated Christian Ministries, Inc. meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 11:30 at The Towers. All congregations are invited to send a representative. Membership in Associated Christian Ministries is open to all, with dues being $5 per year.
