JACKSON COUNTY - A 4-year-old Blair girl was killed and her mother seriously injured Friday morning when the car they were in crossed into the opposite traffic lanes and was struck by another vehicle north of Altus.
Bayliee Forster died of massive head injuries at the scene of the accident at 9:20 a.m. on U.S. Highway 283 at Airport Road. Bayliee's mother, Stephanie Forster, 31, of Blair, was taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital and admitted in serious condition with leg and arm injuries and internal and external trunk injuries.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Jerrus Owen, 19, of Blair, was southbound on the highway when it came to an abrupt stop partially in the southbound lane. Stephanie Forster, who was driving a 2005 Dodge Neon with Bayliee as passenger, lost control of the vehicle and went into a broad slide, crossing into the northbound lanes. A 2001 Chrysler LHS driven by Arla Gean Henderson, 45, of Altus, slammed into the Neon.
Henderson went to JCMH in a private vehicle and was treated and released. Owen was not injured.
Seatbelts were in use by both the Forsters and Henderson. Although both vehicles were equipped with airbags, they functioned only in Henderson's vehicle.
Six Highway Patrol troopers responded to the accident as well as Jackson County EMS, Altus Police Department, Altus Fire Department and Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
