Alan F. McIntyre died at the scene of the accident five miles south of the Kiowa County seat on U.S. Highway 183, and Eric McIntyre, also of Frederick, was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in stable condition with head injuries and internal and external trunk injuries.
According to the Highway Patrol report, at 11:20 a.m., Cody James Wolcott, 20, of Rolfe, Iowa, was driving the 1991 Peterbilt truck northbound and pulled left of center to make a right turn into a rest area. Alan McIntyre, who was also driving northbound in a 1997 Chevrolet pickup, failed to see the Peterbilt truck making the turn and struck its right side.
Personnel of the Hobart Fire Department used the Hurst tool to remove Alan McIntyre from the vehicle. Eric McIntyre was taken by Kiowa County EMS to Elkview Hospital in Hobart, then flown to Oklahoma City. Wolcott was not injured.
Neither Alan nor Eric McIntyre, the report says, was wearing a seatbelt.
Six Highway Patrol troopers responded to the accident as well as the Kiowa County Sheriff's Department, Kiowa County EMS and Hobart Fire Department.
