ALTUS - On Thursday, July 6 the library has two art programs with Danny Gordon of Oklahoma City on the schedule.

The first drawing program will be held at 1 p.m. and is for children in kindergarten through fifth grad. The second class is for teens in junior high through high school. It will start at 2:45 p.m. Both programs will be an hour in length and all supplies will be provided. Parents, please note the kids program is only for kindergarten through fifth grade.

Gordon is a multi-award-winning artist and illustrator from Oklahoma City. He picked up a pencil at a very early age. He says he started drawing at the age of five and has been doing it ever since. Among his many awards is the prestigious Graphic Communication Society of Oklahoma Student Design Competition (now know as the AIGA). He has also won the coveted Best in Show honor for two successive years. Gordon is the only student to accomplish this feat.

He has illustrated six children's books and is the creator of "Danny's Doggies," a very popular body of work. "Danny's Doggies" was so well received he now has a line of collectible plush dogs as well as toys for children and dogs.

His basic philosophy of art is that it is all made up of shapes and lines, and for the last five years he has been sharing this philosophy with kids and teens all over the state.

Gordon's visit to the library is being funded in part with a grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council. Wal-Mart is also a major sponsor for all of the teen programs at the library this summer.

For more information on these programs call the library at 477-2890.
