ALTUS - Whirlpool Corporation and habitat for Humanity International have announced that Habitat for Humanity Altus Area Inc. has been selected out of a pool of over 443 applications from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, to send a representative to participate in building blocks 2006 in Nashville Nov. 4-11.

Building Blocks provides an opportunity for affiliate partners from around the country to unite and experience the excitement of a one-week blitz build firsthand. Eric Wells from Altus is one of 300 outstanding individuals that will build 10 homes in 1 week. The Building Blocks program is designed to engage individuals and communities from around the country to raise awareness for Habitats mission to eliminate substandard housing in the United States.

Each year this annual event will recognize an outstanding U.S. Habitat for Humanity affiliate and celebrate its relationship with its local community by holding a week-long build in the affiliates community. Wells will help construct these homes in just one week in unison with other affiliate representatives from around the country, and Nashville residents. Wells is active duty military with the Altus Air Force Base. Alternate is John King. Both have been active on the Jackson street construction site, on the Habitat workshop on Hudson and on tool repair and maintenance. Whirpool is the official sponsor of the Building Blocks, providing travel to and from the event, lodging, meals, and special events throughout the week.
