HOLLLIS - Fun times are to be had in Harmon County with the Black-Eyed Pea Festival that will be held in Hollis on Saturday, Aug. 12. Activities include a parade, the Jack Rabbit Junction Western Show, the old iron tractor pull, Harmon County Opry, ranch rodeo and the annual blackeyed pea meal at noon.

The festival is held along the streets of downtown Hollis. The day begins with the Black-Eyed Pea Parade sponsored by the Harmon County Chamber of Commerce. Contact the chamber office at (580) 688-2419 for information about the parade.

Vendors will be present this year for a variety of services and craft booths. If you are interested in a booth please contact the museum at (580) 688-9545. The local Lions Clubs will be out again raising money selling brooms and supplies. The local businesses will also be open or will sponsor booths.

Blackeyed peas are not the only grub to be found. There is also a watermelon booth where anyone can come enjoy a juicy ripe watermelon grown right in Harmon County.

The Harmon County Historical Society provides a Black-Eyed Pea Lunch served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Civic Center. There will be locally grown peas, cornbread, sides, and desserts.

The annual antique tractor show and tractor pull will also be held throughout the day, and the museum will be open all day with displays open for the public to see the historical items that make up the county's history.

Make the short drive to Hollis this August for a great time of food and fun at the Blackeyed Pea Festival.

Although the date of the festival is subject to change, it is usually held the first weekend of August.
