ALTUS - A 40-year-old Altus man found guilty June 22 of raping a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl over a two year period has been sentenced to 30 years in the state Department of Corrections.
Upon recommendation by probation and parole officials and the District Attorney's office, Associate District Judge Clark Huey this morning sentenced Curtis Dale Gibson to the 30-year term, to include mandatory completion of the Sex Offender Treatment Program, ideally at Joseph Harp Correctional Center in Lexington.
In an appeal bond hearing held June 23, Gibson was allowed to remain free on bond, over state's objection, following his conviction June 22 by a Jackson County jury on two counts of first degree rape by a person over 18 years of age upon a person under 14 years of age.
The jury recommended the sentence of 30 years for Gibson after the one day hearing before Huey.
Under conditions of his bond, Gibson was required to maintain employment; reside with his mother; have no contact with anyone under 18 other than in the course of his employment; and keep a curfew of 11 p.m. unless he was required to work.
On July 27 the District Attorney's Office was notified that a 14-year-old nephew of Gibson's was also residing at
