Arts, crafts and some creative flare might mean a blue ribbon or two at the Greer County Fair in early September for residents of Grace Living Center - Mangum.

“We're making all sorts of things to enter at the fair this year,” said Grace Living Center - Mangum administrator Cathy Hennigh.

Residents are busy preparing their craft entries. Each week is dedicated to a different type of art or craft item. They'll also be preparing some food entries for the fair.

Greer County Fair officials encourage the participation of Grace Living Center residents in the fair competitions. The fair has many different categories, and winners can qualify to enter their item at the Oklahoma State Fair.

“We love to see the sparkle in the eye and the smile on the face of the elders at what they accomplish,” Hennigh said. “Many of our elders have a history of entering projects in the fair long before coming to make their home at Grace Living Center. We're just keeping up the tradition.”

According to fair records, Greer County residents also have a long tradition of doing well at the State Fair.
