According to reports, two 17-year-old teens were getting into a car to go somewhere at 10:29 p.m. Monday when the 4-10 shotgun that the passenger was carrying accidentally went off as he was getting into the vehicle. The shot hit the driver in the side.
Altus Police Chief Mike Patterson said the initial call that he received was said to be a drive-by shooting in the 600 block of W. Commerce.
“It wasn't a drive-by. These guys were friends and the shooting seems to have been completely accidental.”
Patterson did say that the matter is being investigated to find out where the two were heading with a loaded gun.
“Carrying a loaded weapon in a vehicle is just crazy,” he said.
