The Coffee Cup Bunch of the Friends of the Library will hear a review of Irving Stone's classic “The Agony and the Ecstasy: A Biographical Novel of Michelangelo” tomorrow at the library. The review will be presented at 10 a.m. by Kenneth Cox.

Stone wrote what he called “biographical novels,” books that recount the lives of well-known historical figures. In these novels, Stone interspersed biography with fictional narrative on the psychology and private lives of his subjects. In The Agony and the Ecstasy, Stone brings Michelangelo to life, both the artist and the man.

Often referred to as a masterpiece, the novel offers a compelling portrait of Michelangelo's dangerous, impassioned loves and the God-driven fury from which he wrested the some of the greatest art the world has ever known.

Cox taught vocal music in the Altus Public Schools for 35 years. His choirs performed for five Oklahoma Music Educators Association conferences and at the U.S. Capital, the United Nations, and the National Cathedral in Washington, D. C. He is a past president of the Oklahoma Choral Directors Association, the Oklahoma Music Educators Association, and the Southwestern Division of the American Choral Directors Association.

Cox serves as co-director of the Altus Community Chorus and was choir director at the First United Methodist Church for nine years. He makes his home in Altus with his wife, Nancy.

The Coffee Cup Bunch of Friends of the Library meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Altus Public Library.

The meetings are open to the public and there is no admission charge.
