It was only a matter of time before the athletic ability of Lawton Eisenhower took over the Eagles game with the Altus High Bulldogs Friday night at Hightower Stadium.

That time came in the second half when the Eagles scored the first three times they had the ball and broke open a close game. When it was over, the talented Eagles walked away with a 28-0 victory.

“What I saw out there was a team (Ike) that is very gifted and athletic,” AHS head coach Lyn Hepner said. “They wore us down and that's what they did last week against Lawton High. ”

Altus gave the Eagles all they wanted in the first half. The Bulldogs actually controlled the first quarter. They ran 17 offensive plays while the Eagles only had seven snaps during the first 12 minutes.

The Bulldogs took the opening kickoff and went on a 12 play drive that started at the 30 and stalled at the Eisenhower 32 yard line.

Ike drove 95 yards on 15 plays for the first score of the evening. The big play of the drive came from the Eagles 17 yard line where they faced a third and 10 situation. Quarterback Chris Stutzreim connected with wide receiver Travis Jackson on a 38-yard pass play to give the Eagles a first down at the 45.

Eight plays later, Eisenhower found itself with a first and goal at the Altus three. It took the Eagles four plays to score. Stutzreim sneaked it over from one yard out. Ryan Smith kicked the extra points and Ike lead with 7:04 remaining in the second quarter.

The real star of the game was Eisenhower running back Harrison Jeffers, who rushed for 202 yards on 18 carries. Jeffers scored the Eagles second touchdown of the night on a 37-yard run.

Bruce Crowder came in relief of Jeffers and scored on runs of one yard and 22 yards.

Hepner said he did see some bright spots.

“I feel better than I did last week,” he said.“I know we missed some tackles tonight, but we tackled better than we did last week. Nick Walker and Tyrese Flagg ran well behind the offensive line.

Bulldogs notes: For the first time this year quarterback Blake Stepanovich took snaps from under center. In the two scrimmages and during last week's game against Vernon, the quarterbacks lined up only in the shotgun. Hepner said the coaching staff expanded the offense for the Ike game.

Hepner said he was pleased with the way Tony Salafia punted the ball. Three times Salafia punted inside the 10 yard line and once Ike had to start a possession on its own 13 following a Salafia punt.

Altus held Ike's talented wide receiver Devon Bailey to just two catches for 19 yards. Bailey, who is a Division I college, dropped two passes that might have gone for touchdowns.

The Bulldogs will continue their tough non conference schedule when they will meet the Lawton High School Wolverines in a Thursday game.
