GREER COUNTY - A 47-year-old motorcyclist from Cheyenne was killed Saturday morning north of Granite when he swerved his bike to avoid hitting a pedestrian and collided head-on with a tractor trailer.

George Thomas Crandall died at the scene 1.5 miles north of Granite on state Highway 6 at 9:42 a.m. The pedestrian, Perry Don Walters, 48, of Foss, was taken by helicopter to Elk City Hospital where he was treated and released for injuries he received from flying debris.

According to the Highway Patrol report, Edward Young, 55, of Lawton, was headed north on the highway in a 2007 International tractor trailer; Crandall was headed south on a 1979 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he swerved left to avoid hitting Walters in the roadway. Young swerved to the right to avoid contact with the motorcycle, which plowed head-on into the truck.

Young was not injured.

Five Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene as well as the Granite Police Department and Greer County emergency personnel.
