ALTUS - Hastings Entertainment Superstore in Altus has donation jars located at the registers as a reminder for customers wanting to donate to the Great Plains Literacy Council.
That effort for literacy has paid off as the change has been counted and $147.50 was donated for literacy.
“Hastings is happy to gather these donations throughout the year to aid the battle against illiteracy,” stated Daniel Otsuka, store manager. “We are proud to present the money to the local literacy council.”
The store assistant manager Krystel Perkins and the counter team leader Rhonda Moreland met in the store with the Great Plains Literacy Council President Rosalyn Hall and Literacy Coordinator Ida Fay Winters for the presentation. They discussed other literacy partnerships and projects for the future.
Hastings maintains an active involvement in the fight against illiteracy. They believe that by fostering local efforts to combat illiteracy through donations and making direct contributions, their store can help make a difference in the communities they serve.
Illiteracy robs some of the community members of the ability to achieve their full potential as individuals.
Founded in 1968, Hastings is a leading multimedia entertainment retailer that combines the sale of books, music, videos, video games and periodicals with the rental of videos and video games in a superstore format. This business' help with literacy is one example of the many businesses in the area that are supportive of the reading and speaking of the English language.
