ALTUS - The Altus Chamber of Commerce will again sponsor Farm City Week from Nov. 6 through Nov. 17. The theme “Farming, Flying and Community - The Pillars of Southwest Oklahoma” will be carried out during a Farmer's Appreciation luncheon which is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Altus Community Center, 401 Falcon Road. Cost of this event is $10. “This would be a great time to invite a farmer to lunch,” said Chamber president Holly Urbanski. Contact the Altus Chamber for tickets.
Farm tours will be held Wednesday at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Only a few spaces remain for these tours. The tour will consist of Robbins' farming operation, watching cotton being picked, touring through Cotton Growers Cotton Gin, Altus Peanut Company and driving new tractors provided by Western Equipment in the parking lot at the Jackson County Expo Center.parking lot. Those participating in the tours will attend the Farmers Appreciation luncheon at the community center.
Other events of the week include the Farm City Week banquet on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Altus High School Cafetorium. Tickets for the banquet are on sale for $20 per person. Speaker for the banquet will be Mike Davis, radio host of Agri-Talk. Agri Talk is a daily radio show broadcast on KWHW Radio. KWHW Radio also sponsors the “Legends of Agriculture” award given at the banquet.
Other events during the two weeks include an air refueling flight on Friday, Nov. 17. Dairy tours for the area civic clubs have been added on Nov 10, 14 and 16. For further information, contact the Altus Chamber of Commerce 482-0210.
