The annual Country Kitchen Christmas Bazaar will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the Family Life Center of First United Methodist Church, 317 N. Main.

Many delicious foods will be for sale at the North Pole Bakery and Mrs. Claus' Candy Shoppe, including Aunt Bill's candy, baklava, pumpkin bread, taco soup, pumpkin cheesecakes, ham loaves, chocolate turtles, reindeer mix, sugar-free pies, divinity, frozen casseroles, cranberry pound cakes, layer cakes, and homemade jams and jellies.

Luncheon will be served at the Calico Soup Nook. The menu is Old-Fashioned Stew, Circuit Riders Best Beans, Methodist cornbread, and World Famous Peach Cobbler.

Several quilts will be offered at the event. Made in honor of the state's Centennial, the “Oklahoma Sunrise” quilt is pieced in shades of soft yellows and golds, evoking the colors of an Oklahoma sunrise. Accented with rose, soft green, and pink, the design is inspired by the Double Wedding Ring pattern with a modern twist. It is finished with a hand-sewn, scallop-and-point binding. This quilt will be sold by sealed bid.

Offered through the sale of tickets is a quilt titled “State Fair.” It is pieced in patterns of triangles and rectangles. The colors are rose, mauve and white. The drawing for this quilt will take place during the event. In addition, several baby quilts will be sold. The church's own Quilting Bee stitched all the quilting.

Proceeds from the bazaar are used to support local philanthropies as well as Methodist missions and charities. The past December the UMW purchased thirty-two new children's coats in support of the Altus Fire Department's Coats for Kids and will again participate in this project. Other local groups supported by bazaar proceeds include the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, Community Cupboard, Altus Air Force Base Assistance League, Altus Air Force Base Family Services, Altus Schools Open Doors, JCMH Hospice, Great Plain Literacy Council, and Habitat for Humanity.
