George Larry “Hoot” Gipson, 77, of Blair, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006.

He was born July 15, 1929, in Amarillo, Texas, to Edley Ray Geipson and Arebell Dorries Gipson. He moved to Warren in 1941 and graduated from Warren High School in 1947. He went into the military to serve in the Korean Conflict on Feb. 26, 1951, and served in the 7th Infantry Division, 17th Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Headquarters Company, and saw combat in Korea. He married Carolyn Joyce Ketchersid on July 3, 1953, and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage. He was a member of the Warren Baptist Church.

After working in construction in Texas, he moved back to Warren in 1972 and became owner and operator of Gipson's Appliance in Altus until 1995 when he retired. He stayed busy going to Bluegrass festivals, gardening and playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Warren; four children, Kathy and spouse Jerry of Fort Worth, Texas, Kevin and wife Bev of Wichita, Kan., Kelly and wife Beth of Lee's Summit, Mo., Randy and wife Rosemary of Altus; a daughter-in-law, Raylene and husband Jack Johnson of Woodward; 14 grandchildren, Amy Blake of Hong Kong, China, Jacob Brown of Fort Worth, Terrance Gipson of Amarillo, Chase and Trent Harvick of Altus, Mathew and Emily Gipson of Lee's Summit, Holly Ann, Ann Catherine, Mary Ann, July Ann Gipson of Wichita, Carl David Johnson of Woodward; two sisters, Eileen of Choctaw, and Marie of Warren; two brother, Calvin of Altus, and Charles of Warren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of Bluegrass friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wallace; one sister, Juanita; and a son, Larry Keith.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Warren Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Lambert and Minister Tom Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the Warren Cemetery under the direction of People's Cooperative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf.
