City Council looking to use surplus capital improvement funds

ALTUS - The Altus Municipal Trust Authority and City Council will meet in regular session at 6:30 p.m. today in the council chambers at City Hall.

Among items on the agenda:

- The AMTA and council will consider and vote to approve a resolution approving the use of surplus capital improvement funds for resurfacing of the tennis courts on Falcon Road and for the purchase of tables and chairs for the community center, rotary center, blue room and gymnasium, as well as improvements at the City Auditorium, and to allow the funds to be paid from the hotel/motel tax under a 2004 Revenue Note. The action is to meet economic development criteria as outlined in the hotel/motel tax ordinance and would authorize trustees to accept bids in accordance with the competitive bidding act.

- The AMTA will vote on a staff recommendation to award a $20,655.40 bid for two trucks of utility poles of various sizes to North Pacific Pole Co. of Dierks, Ark.

- The council will consider and vote to approve a memorandum of understanding between the city, Southwest Community Action and Altus Public Schools for transportation in the event of an emergency. Senate Bill 1709, which went into effect Nov. 1, requires all cities in Oklahoma to develop an evacuation plan for their citizens.

- The council will consider and vote to approve an ordinance changing the zoning classification of an 8.27-acre tract of land in the Laurel Homes 7th Addition north of East Tamarack and west of North Park Lane from A - Agriculture to R-1 Single Family Residential.

- The council will consider and vote to approve an ordinance changing the zoning classification of a 5.61-acre tract of land in the Hunter Pointe Part 1 site east of North Park Lane and north of East Tamarack Road from A - Agriculture to C-2 Convenience Commercial.

- The council will discuss and vote to authorize staff to have the mold problem at the Altus Police Department building evaluated for potential health problems and recommend a course of action.
