Blanche Marie McElroy, 80 ,of Warren, died at home early Thursday morning, Jan. 4, 2007.

She was born July 7, 1926, to Edley Ray and Arebell (Dorries) Gipson in Wellington, Texas. Moving to Jackson County her junior year of high school, she attended Warren High School where she graduated. on June 23, 1945. She married the love of her life and soul mate, Leland W. McElroy. He preceded her in death in 1973. After establishing their home in the Warren Community, she began cooking at the Warren School and continued to cook there until they consolidated with Friendship School. She retired from Navajo School in 1992 after many years of cooking. Her hobbies inlcuded quilting, crocheting, keeping up with friends and family by writing letters, collecting angels and dolls. She also enjoyed attending family reunions, researching family genealogy and attending Navajo Indian sporting events, particularly basketball.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leland; one son, Kerry McElroy in 1999; one sister, Juanita Coleen Gipson; and two brothers, Wallace Gipson and Larry Gipson.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Stewart and husband David of Altus; a daughter-in-law, Anna McElroy of Deerfield, Kan.; three grandchildren, Beth Black and husband Jared of Edmond, Amanda McElroy of Deerfield, and Jeff McElroy of Deerfield; one great-grandson, Dax Graham Black of Edmond; a special niece, whom she dearly loved as her own child, Marie Timmons and husband John and their daughter Jamie of Altus; one sister, Margie Eilen Love of Choctaw,; two brothers, Calvin Gipson and wife Joyce of Altus and Charles Gipson and wife May of Blair; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Gipson of Texas and Carolyn Gipson of Blair; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at the Warren Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
