On Sunday, January 21, a 48 year old Frederick resident reported to Deputy Keith Hefner that she had been assaulted and held against her will by Edward Myers of Vernon, Texas. The Frederick resident stated that Myers had also attempted to sexually assault her, but she was able to fight him off. Subsequent investigation into this report by Sheriff Bobby Whittington, Undersheriff Bryan Smith, and Deputy Keith Hefner, led to the arrest of Myers, and charges filed in Tillman County District.
According to Sheriff Whittington, the Frederick resident had traveled to Vernon with Myers in hopes of finding employment, and while there, he attempted to obtain sexual favors from her, to which she refused. While traveling back to Frederick, Myers allegedly tried to force her to have sex with him, but she was able to force him off. The resident was able to escape from Myers and went to a residence where she was able to summon help. “Upon receiving this report, we immediately began an investigation, and were able to obtain physical evidence to substantiate the victim's statement. This in turn led to the arrest of Myers for Assault with Intent to Commit a Felony” said Sheriff Whittington. Myers is in the Tillman County Jail awaiting formal arraignment.
